Follow the Light (John 8:12)

John 8:12

12 Again therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world; he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

In some parts of the world, there are fierce wild forest fires that sweep through the land. I recall seeing some footage of a man driving through the inferno-like environment as he tried to escape its destructive effects.

There was smoke and darkness all around, his visibility was severely hindered. There was ash and burning embers raining down on the windscreen. There were burning trees and bushes on either side of the road.

There was darkness and chaos all around him, yet in the distance, there was a light coming from the vehicle in front.

The car wasn’t far ahead at all but because of the distractions of the atmosphere and the situation the driver had encountered, it became difficult to correctly judge the proximity to the car ahead.

The driver would have been unable to continue on his journey had it not been for the light that came from that car.

As Christians in a constantly changing and challenging world, we may be able to draw similarities with the man driving through the wildfires.

At times it may seem pretty dark and chaotic but no matter what tries to rain down on us, with God surrounding us, we are not stopped just as the windscreen was not affected by the ash and embers, we keep going regardless.

In this scripture, Jesus identifies Himself as the ‘Light of the World’ letting us know that no one stumbles around and gets lost in the darkness if we follow Him. In fact, Jesus promises us that we will have the light of life.

Just like the car in front with its taillights shining in the darkness, we can follow Jesus out of the intense situations if we remain focused on Him and not become distracted.

What I found interesting about this picture is that the car in front was closer to the man driving than first imagined however it appeared further away because the darkness and chaos tried to reduce visibility.

It can appear that Jesus is farther away from us than we may think at times, do not allow the darkness and chaos of the times to cloak the true light of Christ or make you feel that God is not with you.

He is right there with you guiding you through the storms of life.

He is right there with you guiding you through the storms of life. Don’t become distracted by the other lights along the way, just like those burning trees and bushes they are not going to lead you to your destination only God can do that.

This week as we start our new year no matter the difficulties of the time let’s give thanks to Jesus for always being our light and ask Him to direct our path. We place our year into the hands of God who has a plan for our lives, we give Him the glory.

This is God’s word spoken in love. Remember The LORD our God, He is good and His mercies endure forever. May the blessings of the LORD overtake you and come upon you and His love surround you, for His glory. Have a blessed week. In Jesus Name.

Be a blessing and share this with someone who needs to hear this today.
