Let Trouble Remind Us (Psalm 77:11)

11 I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.

Psalm 77:11

Ever forgotten something important that you were sure you had to remember? Got to the store adamant to purchase that one item, walked around picked up everything else but that item.

Then as you hit the exit, had to turn back because the one thing that meant the most and was the whole purpose for the trip to the store in the first place was still sitting on the shelf waiting to be purchased.

In the midst of trouble, heartache and grief it is possible and understandable that a person can forget the goodness of God, His love and the joy of His presence.

This is what we fight for, we fight to remember the goodness of God, the Apostle Paul called it “Fighting the good fight of faith …” 1 Timothy 2:12

Trouble is not usually seen as a good thing and I totally agree with that thought. It takes a lot of hindsight and a great distance between trouble and us before we can view trouble as a good thing.

No one likes trouble, however, there is one good thing that we can get out of going through trouble and that is drawing closer to God.

Psalm 119:71 says It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.

It’s in the times when we are at our lowest that we see the hand of God on our lives so clearly. It’s when we are in the season of difficulty that we learn the difference between our voice and the voice of God speaking words of comfort, telling us where to go and what to do. We pray more, we listen more, we hang on to every last word, we’re more sensitive and compassionate and we’re more patient.

Seeing as though we’re going through this trouble it might as well serve our purpose, trouble reminds us to remember the God that brought us through the last storm, the tender mercies and loving kindness of God that kept us going.

This week let’s pray to God to help us to fight the good fight of faith, to draw us close to Him, to let the trouble that we face serve our purpose and remind us of the goodness of God.

This is God’s word spoken in love. Remember The LORD our God, He is good and His mercies endure forever. May the blessings of the LORD overtake you and come upon you and His love surround you, for His glory. Have a blessed week. In Jesus Name.
