Righteous Friendship (James 2:23)
James 2:23 (KJV)
23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
Demonstrating that you believe in someone can be the most powerful way of bonding with them in friendship.
This is even more powerful when that someone is God. He takes this so personally and this is so important to Him.
In Hebrews 11:6 the bible says without faith it is impossible to please God…
Abraham truly believed God even when He could not see God, even when it was costly to him; he was willing to sacrifice his promised son.
Abraham believed the promises of God. In Romans 4:20-21 the bible says that Abraham staggered not at the promises of God through unbelief…
He demonstrated his belief in God when believing wasn’t pretty, in fact some of what he faced was bloody, and it was horrendous, and it was terrifying. Yet Abraham was prepared to believe God for the best out of the situations in which he found himself, even when it seemed impossible.
God honoured His friendship with Abraham because Abraham believed God and it was this belief that gave Abraham the right standing with God, this was credited to him, it was not self-proclaimed, and he was not self-appointed.
The loving friendship was initiated by God and was kept and honoured by God.
In John 15:14-15 Jesus calls His disciples His friends (that’s us), once again God has initiated a friendship with man and He is determined to keep it.
Today we can draw a lot from the way Abraham believed God. Are you facing something which may be terrifying or maybe horrendous? Or maybe you just can’t make sense of what you are facing or going through?
Believe God! Even if it doesn’t seem logical, believe God! Even if you sound foolish, believe God! Even if you are the only one. You’re in good company, you are a friend of God.
He will not forget you and God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).
This week we thank God for His friendship He keeps us close to Him no matter what we face. Let’s ask God to help us to be aware of our friendship with Him and strengthen us in the times when it looks like all hope is lost. Our covenant keeping God will uphold us and gird us with His truth His power and His love.
This is God’s word spoken in love. Remember The LORD our God, He is good and His mercies endure forever. May the blessings of the LORD overtake you and come upon you and His love surround you, for His glory. Have a blessed week. In Jesus Name.
Be a blessing and share this with someone who needs to hear this today.
