James 3:13 (KJV)
13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
The world and the Kingdom of God have very different views and feelings when it comes to this word ‘meek’.
When you look up the word meek in any non-biblical dictionary you find words such as docile, obsolete, soft, spineless, spiritless, easily imposed on and passive.
Some definitions do overlap with some of the biblical meanings so you will find words like humble, patient, kind, gentle to name a few.
The overall sentiment of the world’s view is that to be meek is considered to be a pushover.
This, however, is not the biblical truth, to be meek is considered biblically as a sign of strength. To be meek isn’t passive it is an active and deliberate submission to the will of God.
The word meek also means patience and hopefulness in the face of fiery trials relying on God and always ready to do His will without resistance.
A disciplined state of calm, it is not the absence of strength but strength under control.
Sometimes we do have moments when we get angry but that doesn’t mean that a person isn’t meek, it’s how we conduct ourselves when we get angry that demonstrates the level of meekness.
In Galatians 5:23 meekness is listed as one of the fruits of the spirit meaning it is the Holy Spirit that accomplishes and produces this within us and not by our own human efforts.
The reason why we are looking at meekness is that it plays an integral part in God’s wisdom. In fact, it is the main attribute that a person can display that demonstrates that they walk in true godly wisdom.
Some may profess to be wise, however, is there a genuine meekness; a humility, strength under control every ready to do the will of God without resistance? This is how God trains us by His word and not by the world so that we are able to know good from evil (God has given us a gem right there).

Jesus is our example; our point of reference, He was referred to in the bible as meek and in Matthew 11:29 He refers to Himself as meek and lowly in heart.
He even goes as far as to say that we should learn from Him manoeuvre like He manoeuvred.
He didn’t back down said and did what was right but still was a servant to those He led and didn’t lord it over people even though He is Lord of all.
There is power in meekness because His power is within us and every time we demonstrate that meekness at work in us, we do show that we are our Heavenly Father’s children through His Son Christ Jesus revealed by the Holy Spirit who bears witness within us.
There may be some that may have been questioning their strength because the Holy Spirit has produced meekness in you. And the thought may have been “I should have done or said something… I don’t want them to think that I am soft…”
We must not allow the lies of the enemy to steal our joy in the Lord. We are strong in the power of ‘His’ might and not our own.
Some of us may be saying “I’m not there yet, I’ve still got a long way to go!!” We thank God for the work of the Holy Spirit, the work is unfolding right in front of our eyes hidden in plain sight.
To genuinely want the things of God is a demonstration that He is already working in us. The carnal mind cannot desire such things, only that which is of God desires God.
