Brought Near by the Blood (Ephesians 2:13)
Ephesians 2:13 (NKJV)
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
When you use binoculars the object or person that you want to see close up appears to be near and yet they are still the exact same distance, far away from you.
It’s like having someone that you thought was a good friend and maybe through a series of events you learned that they were not as close to you in mind and heart as you thought.
We could call those examples of nearness superficial, lacking in depth, appearing close at surface level, only seeing the truth following closer examination.
This is not the kind of ‘near’ that is being spoken of in this bible verse.
This word ‘near’ lends itself to being close by physically, not far away by time or space, a close resemblance to the real thing, familiar, on good terms, and (the one I like the best) in a close intimate relationship.
This is what the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross has done for us. Our nearness to God is not fake, shallow or superficial.
In every way possible the blood of Jesus has brought us close to God not just physically but spiritually. Not just in the concept of space and time but also by close resemblance and not just by being in the likeness of Jesus but by being part of His body; in a close intimate relationship with God in other words God with us.
We are far way from God no matter how we may feel, we are near to Him; we have access to God by the blood of Jesus.
This week let’s make good use of the nearness that we have to God and spend some time in His presence just loving on Him, talking to Him about the things that are on God’s heart. The only request is that He draw us closer, not through sadness and heartbreak, but through devotion.
We have been brought near by the blood.
This is God’s word spoken in love. Remember The LORD our God, He is good and His mercies endure forever. May the blessings of the LORD overtake you and come upon you and His love surround you, for His glory. Have a blessed week. In Jesus Name.
Be a blessing and share this with someone who needs to hear this today.
