17 “They shall be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts,
“On the day that I make them My jewels.
And I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.”

Malachi 3:17 (New King James Version)

It is possible to hold a genuine piece of jewelry in your hand and be totally unaware of its authenticity or its value because its surroundings don’t match up with our idea of high-end luxury. It could be hard to spot if it hasn’t been polished and buffed to a high shine and presented in a pretty box.

It takes a knowing eye to spot the real gems, the jewels, the high value stones especially when that jewel is found in an unusual environment, covered and disguised in the rough.

There are reports and stories the world over, where people have bought a piece of jewelry from a thrift shop or yard sale thinking it was just a piece of costume jewelry only to find out later that it was a genuine gemstone.

In one particular report, a lady purchased a ring from a thrift store for $13 assuming it was costume jewelry, she wore it everywhere, shopping, treated it anyhow, wore it while she did her chores, you name it; as you do with a gaudy piece of costume jewelry, for many years.

Finally, she had the ring appraised only to find out that the ring was a genuine 26 carat diamond worth over half a million dollars.

There are so many stories like that, antique jewelry found in pockets of garments in a second-hand shop, brooches worth thousands found pinned to blouses and sweaters, purchased from yard sales and flea markets for a few dollars or pounds.

The humble surroundings did not diminish the true value of those pieces of jewelry. In the right hands their true value was made known to all, even when initially there was a failure to see underneath all of the unpolished exterior and the questionable surroundings that some people walk past and ignore.

God said in this scripture that He will make His people His jewels, He will claim them for Himself. In the hands of the Creator, our true value comes to light, no matter how many times we’ve been rejected or treated less than our value.

Your true value will never diminish just because others are unable to discern your true worth. Your value is established in the hands and the opinion of the Almighty God that created you, even if you couldn’t see it yourself.

As we prepare ourselves to face another week, let’s give thanks to God our Creator who brings our true value to light in His hands and ask Him to reveal to us what He sees when He looks at us. Help us to walk in line with our calling, and in the liberty and abundant life that Jesus sacrificed Himself for us to have.

This is God’s word spoken in love. Remember The LORD our God, He is good and His mercies endure forever. May the blessings of the LORD overtake you and come upon you and His love surround you, for His glory. Have a blessed week. In Jesus Name.
