Seek His Face Evermore (1 Chronicles 16:11)
1 Chronicles 16:11
11 Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face evermore!
This particular verse of scripture is taken from a song that David wrote when the ark of the covenant had been placed in the tabernacle (the tent) that David had prepared for it.
You see, the ark of God represented the presence, the very dwelling place of God in the earth, the promises of God, the provision of God, the word of God and the meeting place with God and much, much, more.
Every enemy of God’s people knew that when the people of Israel brought the ark of the covenant into the camp during battle, it was over!!! God ensured victory for His people, when they weren’t rebelling against Him.
Thankfully because of Christ Jesus’ sacrifice as a payment for the sins of mankind, the Spirit of the living God lives within His people that are born again who believe and accept Jesus Christ as Lord, being the Son of God and the One spoken of by the prophets of old.
David in his merriment, rejoicing and glee encouraged us in a song of thanksgiving to seek the face of God. This instruction is not sombre, it’s a song of praise and leading us into worship in spirit and in truth.
David understood the importance of the presence of God and in our age, it is important for us to see what God is still using David to convey to us in this scripture.
As David celebrated, whirled and danced before the Lord with all his might until his sweat-soaked kingly robes and garments were discarded from his body in a procession of worship.
David is showing us to make a point of making room for God, not just His ‘presence’ but His ‘company’. When we share someone’s company we spend quality time with that person, we share dreams, laughter, tears, hopes, plans…
Metaphorically speaking, we may have made room for Him to be in the room, but did we make room for Him to be in our hearts? …to listen to His heart? What’s important to Him? … His sense of humour (God has an amazing sense of humour), His holiness? … His beauty? … His grace? And we could go on and on.
There is so much that God wants to share with us, when we go out of our way to make room to meet with Him, we discover all of this and so much more.
When we seek Him, we seek His strength, we seek His face. What does this look like to you?
This may look like regular prayer and fasting, reading and studying His word, praising Him, worshipping Him, creating with Him.
Whatever this looks like to you, God is conveying in His word through the life of king David, to place importance on His presence, seek His face ever more! No matter how much we were going after Him, let’s do so ever more! In other words, always!
This week, let’s carve out some time for God that we wouldn’t normally spend, let’s establish a new time with Him/ a new schedule or a random spontaneous worship, God is up to something.
He’s unfolding something new, let’s respond to Him by faith and do something new as well. Seek His face ever more!
This is God’s word spoken in love. Remember The LORD our God, He is good and His mercies endure forever. May the blessings of the LORD overtake you and come upon you and His love surround you, for His glory. Have a blessed week. In Jesus Name.
Be a blessing and share this with someone who needs to hear this today.
Take Care x
