Hold the Beginning of our Confidence (Hebrews 3:14)

Hebrews 3:14 (NKJV)

14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end,

Sitting on a chair has been used as an illustration to teach the principle of faith for a very long time. We sit without thinking believing that the chair will carry our weight without faltering because we have knowledge.

Knowledge of the safety standards that every manufacturer has to observe and also, we have experience and trust. We’ve sat in that chair or one like it, hundreds of thousands of times.

Very rarely do we see a person timidly squatting then indecisively raising up from grazing the surface of the chair with their rear end in doubt that the chair will do what it was there to do.

The majority of time we see a person fling their entire body weight upon the poor unsuspecting piece of furniture as though it were made of indestructible material from another world (I jest, but you get the point).

There is no question, no pleading, no doubting or having to commend the chair before sitting, we just sit, we just trust that the chair will do what only the chair can do.

So, I ask the question do we trust God to do what only God can do?

If we can put our confidence in the chair to hold our weight surely, we can put our confidence in Christ Jesus to hold our lives? But is it that simple?

It’s the same principle and the same faith muscle the difference being one is an inanimate object the other is the Person that created the entire universe and holds everything in that universe together and beyond.

One may argue that a person has the ability to change their mind or may decide not to do what they said they would do however, seeing as this Person is God, we can be more certain that the chair would buckle and break, than to think that Jesus won’t keep His word.

The majority of the time we have not believed or expected that the chair would buckle and break, so we should not believe or expect that Jesus would fail or won’t come through for us some way, somehow.

God never fails (Deuteronomy 31:6) by His word the worlds were framed (Hebrews 11:3) God keeps His word, it’s impossible for Him to lie (Hebrews 6:18).

When we are first saved, we have such a great passion and zeal for the Lord our God, especially when we experience beautiful encounters with Him as we become more conscious of who God is.

In our scripture the writer is encouraging and warning us to hold on to our confidence in Christ Jesus just as we did at the beginning of our walk and see it through to the end.

We can cling to Him, we can trust Him and completely rely on Him, He can hold your weight, He is strong enough.

Stand in the original firm assured expectation that God will not forsake you, take care to guard your heart that it does not become cynical and embittered.

Believe Jesus for the better especially when faced with the very worst, somehow He always manages to bring the best out of a painful and sore situation that brings deliverance to many and healing to you.

If we are partakers in Christ, then we have an expectation for His resurrection power to be worked out in our lives… and then some.

Simply MichMich

Remember that we are not only being developed for life on this earth, but we are also being prepared for an eternal purpose, there is hope in Jesus. What happens in this lifetime is not the final say on the matter, the conversation isn’t over yet.

If we are partakers in Christ, then we have an expectation for His resurrection power to be worked out in our lives… and then some.

This week let’s remind ourselves of our First Love and remember the confidence we had in God and remain steadfast in it with the same intensity as when we started.

Let’s ask Jesus to refresh and revive us with the Holy Ghost and let that living water wash over our souls as we wait on Him and in Him. Let our strength be renewed as is our focus for this year in Isaiah 40:31.

Remember, hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end.

This is God’s word spoken in love. Remember The LORD our God, He is good and His mercies endure forever. May the blessings of the LORD overtake you and come upon you and His love surround you, for His glory. Have a blessed week. In Jesus Name.

Be a blessing and share this with someone who needs to hear this today.
