The Staying Power of Jesus (Hebrews 13:8)

8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Hebrews 13:8 (KJV)

We had no idea what staying power looked like until we came into contact with Jesus. The truth of the matter is, everything on this earth is limited and cannot last forever. No matter how much we are aware of this, it still takes a process to come to terms with this truth.

Some may not be able to stay even though they wanted to, some may leave by choice, some may fail, some may just fall away but Jesus will always stay. You and I are not abandoned, God is with us and will never leave us. (Hebrews 13:5)

Jesus is the same yesterday today and forever! (Hebrews 13:8)

At the point that Jesus had fulfilled His assignment in the earth and was ready to ascend into Heaven He comforted His disciples and revealed the way in which He would always be with us.

In John 14:18-26 one of the things that Jesus promised was “… I will not leave you comfortless…”

In other translations the word is used, I will not leave you fatherless… or I will not leave you orphans… or I will not leave you desolate …

In verse 23 Jesus also promised us that because we love Him and keep His sayings that He and our Heavenly Father will come to us and make their home in us.

Jesus also promised us in verse 26 saying:

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

It has been well over two thousand years since that promise was made and everyday people are receiving salvation and God is making His home in them. Everyday there are people keeping the sayings of Jesus, obeying Him and loving Him in the most tumultuous and unprecedented times that have ever been seen.

Jesus is still here living in us just as He promised. He is the absolute reality of Proverbs 18:24 Jesus is our friend that sticks closer than a brother.

At times He encourages us, at other times He empowers us, at other times He edifies us in other words He builds us up, at times He corrects us, He gives us hope beyond all hope, He gives us strength, He gives us comfort. He is still here and He has not changed!

Jesus is the ultimate staying power!

We have a future with Christ Jesus beyond what we see here in this world and that is such a great encouragement for us. Jesus has also given His staying power to His people! He said in Psalm 121:3 “He will not suffer (allow) your foot to be moved, He that keeps you will not slumber.”

He is our constant and He is our consistency, when we cannot, He already is and He makes a way for us.
