…As the LORD liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity.
2 Samuel 4:9
In 2 Samuel 4 David is confronted with the horror that Ish-bosheth, the son of the fallen king Saul had been killed. As the culprits stood before him thinking that they were bringing David good news, David makes a profound statement before he delivers judgement on the matter.
In verse 9 David declares “As the Lord liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity,” David had seen some terrible times in his life, a lot of persecution, heartbreak, rejection, a lack of outward stability and situations which should’ve led to certain death and yet he was still alive and not only that, he was now king.

God’s closeness didn’t stop David from going through hardships, but God’s redeeming grace ensured that despite his distresses, David came out stronger, wiser and victorious, able to rightly handle success in a way that would glorify God and not himself.

Where in your life can you identify God’s redeeming grace in your past or present distresses? Where has God demonstrated that He has possession of your life and has kept you close to Himself?
Psalm 34:18 reads “God is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Even in our toughest times God is demonstrating that He alone is bringing us through and just like David we can declare with certainty “As the Lord liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity,”
Let’s pray throughout this week that The Holy Spirit makes us sensitive to see the demonstration of our loving Heavenly Father’s redeeming grace. Let’s slso remind ourselves and the current situation we face that God has redeemed our souls out of ALL adversities and we have the victory.
This is God’s word spoken in love. Remember The LORD our God, He is good and His mercies endure forever. May the blessings of the LORD overtake you and come upon you and His love surround you, for His glory. Have a blessed week. In Jesus Name.
