Rooted and Established in Love (Ephesians 3:17-19)

Ephesians 3:17-19

17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

A few months ago in the spring, I began to prune my rubber plant, I couldn’t bear to throw away the cutting, so I planted it directly back in the rich soil. I didn’t expect much to happen as I hadn’t applied any rooting hormone or anything special to encourage growth. 

I just let it occupy the same nourishing environment as the mother plant. To my surprise the cutting didn’t die off, its leaves remained green. Over the ensuing months, it went from strength to strength. 

I decided to give it a test, if I gave it a little tug as though I was trying to take it out of the soil and I felt any kind of resistance then I would know that the cutting had rooted. 

As I gently tugged at the stem I was met with immediate resistance, I was so pleased, this little plant is a fighter!!! It had taken root! It wants to live and now it is being established and thriving. 

We can draw similarities between my experience with my little rubber plant and our lives as Christians. 

In our focus scripture, the writer is expressing his prayer of expectation for our growth, that we will develop roots and be firmly set in love, just like my little rubber plant. 

Just as those roots are stretching out and are intertwining and digging deep; we are stretching out and are empowered and strengthened. In order to grasp and apprehend along with our brothers and sisters in Christ, the full and rich dimensions of Jesus’ love

It is the things that we go through that give us the experience of that love in a way that is far superior to head knowledge or something that you just read about. It’s not just about the books that we read although it is important to educate ourselves.

It’s about receiving God within ourselves and to experience His love that could not be comprehended outside of Christ Jesus. 🙌🏾💕 #Deovtional #JesusLovesYou #SimplyMichMich Click To Tweet

It’s about receiving God within ourselves and to experience His love that could not be comprehended outside of Christ Jesus. It’s our whole lives; our bodies our soul our spirit being filled with the richest measure of God flooding us with Himself that there is an overflow to others. 

Even the most introvert of people will affect others with the overflow of God within them without trying.

We can’t help it, its’ our new nature now. Even the most introverted of people will affect others with the overflow of God within them without trying. 

Just like my little plant, when something tries to pull us out, we resist because we are rooted. James 4:7 reminds us to submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from us. 

This week let’s give thanks to God for His tremendous love towards us. May our roots go deep far and wide in God’s love and in His word. May our whole being be flooded with the very divine presence of our Lord so much so, there is an overflow. May your week and your year ahead be blessed and overflow with the love of God in Jesus Name. 

This is God’s word spoken in love. Remember The LORD our God, He is good and His mercies endure forever. May the blessings of the LORD overtake you and come upon you and His love surround you, for His glory. Have a blessed week. In Jesus Name.
