Devotional Be A Light Unto Me Micah 7:8

Be a Light Unto Me (Micah 7:8)

Micah 7:8 (King James Version)

8 Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.

There is a serious danger that comes from being in failure and darkness, however, the danger is not to the child of God that may find themselves in this state.

The danger is to the enemy that may be rejoicing and gloating when we may fall.

The person sitting in darkness has come to end of themselves and may be in a vulnerable place of correction.

This means, the only person that can help them is God and He will do so with a merciful heart

When a child of God cries out in this state, the compassion of our Father is stirred and He cannot change who He is, so He will come looking for His child to lift them out of the mess and help them see where they may have gone wrong.

We see in nature how the cries of the beloved cub draws the mamma bear when it is in distress, even though it shouldn’t have wandered off, the mother will still look for the cub.

It is a well-known fact that it is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be anywhere near a bear cub that has been separated from its mother when she comes looking for her baby.

There is something about the distress of the child that activates the ferocious compassion of the loving parent.

We see this patterned in the Word of God time and time again, the people of God turned away from Him, they went after the gods of the surrounding nations.

Then they fell into trouble, realised their mistake called out to God, He had mercy and compassion towards them and at the appointed time He delivered them out of their distress.

In this particular scripture, we see the writer speaking from his impassioned generational experience; even though he was feeling crushed by the failures of his people, he warns his gloating onlookers not to rejoice.

He knows that God will hear His cry, whenever God’s people find themselves in darkness, it won’t be forever, we will arise again. 🙏🏾❤️🔥 #JesusLovesYou #Devotional #SimplyMichMich Click To Tweet

He knows that God will hear His cry, whenever God’s people find themselves in darkness, it won’t be forever, we will arise again.

Further along in verse 18 of this chapter we see that God will not remain angry forever because He delights in mercy and loving-kindness.

This is the very language of salvation, in His mercy, God poured out His anger concerning our sins upon Jesus and not us; Jesus sacrificed Himself for us on the cross.

Because of Christ Jesus we can rise again.

Simply MichMich

This is God’s light to us, Christ Jesus and His sacrifice so that we can be reconciled to God and can arise out of darkness; because of Christ Jesus we can rise again.

God never forgets the gloating of the enemy, He takes it personally, much like when a good parent disciplines their child, but woe-be-tied a stranger that tries to do the same.

We see this in the book of Ezekiel Chapter 25 and 26 God pronouncing judgement on the nations that gloated, rejoiced and took advantage of His people when they had been taken into captivity and exile as a result of their sins.

It’s a very dangerous place indeed, so dangerous that we are warned in the book of Proverbs 24:17-18 not to gloat when our enemy falls or be glad in our hearts when they stumble or the Lord may see, and that act of evil displeases Him and He redirects His attention to us.

We are so grateful that we serve a God that is merciful, loving, and kind to us that He will always find us in our lowest point and be the light to us, and remembers those that gloat.

This week as we are spending time with God let’s thank Jesus for going to the cross for us and thank Him for being the light to us in our dark places.

Let’s repent for any time that we may have judged or gloated in our hearts at the misfortune of another. We thank God for revealing truth to the inward part of us that we become better than we were yesterday and for shining His light upon us when we cried “Lord be a light unto me”.

This is God’s word spoken in love. Remember The LORD our God, He is good and His mercies endure forever. May the blessings of the LORD overtake you and come upon you and His love surround you, for His glory. Have a blessed week. In Jesus Name.

Be a blessing and share this with someone who needs to hear this today.

Take Care x
