Behold I Will Do a New Thing (Isaiah 43:19)

Isaiah 43:19 (KJV)

19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

The season of new beginnings is upon us! Happy Rosh Hashanah!! May your new year ahead be fruitful and sweet, in Jesus’ Name!

The thing about transition is that it can be bitter-sweet; the uncertainty that comes from the new thing, yet the sweetness of progress.

Saying goodbye to somethings that you would rather hang onto, although not beneficial for where you are going. Saying hello to somethings that don’t look familiar and not too sure if they are comfortable but moving towards them anyway.

Are you facing a bitter-sweet moment? Can you identify with the ‘new thing’ transition period?

The pomegranate fruit is a fitting symbol normally used along with honey, apples and other fruits to symbolise the fruitful and sweet new year eaten at Rosh Hashanah and this new beginning that we are stepping into. It is considered the ‘king of fruits’ and no wonder, God created it with its own little crown.

Its taste is both sweet and a pleasing tartness bordering on bitter but in a beautiful and good way. It is packed full of seeds encased in a thin layer of flesh that look like little red rubies as they tumble out.

The outer skin looks marred and scarred, beaten and a little misshaped and when the flesh is crushed blood red coloured juice is poured out. One of the best ways to extract the seeds is cut the skin, turn the fruit face down and strike it repeatedly on its back. Sound familiar?

The pomegranate is a fruit that is a blessing because one fruit has approximately 613 seeds; out of one you can get many, many more pomegranate trees/ shrubs. Again, does this sound familiar to you?

Immediately thoughts of Jesus our King of kings and Lord of lords who is the Word wrapped in flesh spring to mind. The bible often uses ‘seed’ as a word picture to illustrate the word of God (Luke 8:11).

We know that God never does anything by accident, so is it any wonder that we should see God using the pomegranate in between gold bells upon the hem of the priestly robes when He gave Moses the design of the tabernacle? (Exodus 28:33-35) Everything speaks of and points to Jesus.

We go into this new year with Christ Jesus and in Christ Jesus, what does He want to achieve in your life this year? What is the agenda of our King?

Whatever it is, it’s new and may look impossible at times but God has promised us in this week’s scripture that He will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert (Isaiah 43:19).

Behold He does a new thing! May you know it as it springs forth suddenly. Praise Him and watch God do the impossible in Jesus’ Name!
