Devotional True Friendship Reveals Genesis 18:17-18

True Friendship Reveals (Genesis 18:17-18)

Genesis 18:17-18 (AMP)

17 The Lord said, “Shall I keep secret from Abraham [My friend and servant] what I am going to do, 18 since Abraham is destined to become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed through him?

You can tell when people are good friends, they are usually very close. They do things together, they speak often and if they are going to do something, they usually run it by each other.

Sometimes they do this to get advice, sometimes as a sounding board and sometimes they just want to include their friend in the journey.

I think it is safe to say that the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-powerful God was not speaking to Abraham to get advice from him.

God was including Abraham because God considered him to be His friend, truly, not just at face value.

The thing about friendship is, the closer you get to a person the more they share with you. Sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s not so good, and when you love your friend, you take the good with the not so good.

You have your say and tell them the truth even if they do their own thing regardless of what you say, at least you’ve had the opportunity to say your piece and they’ve shown you the respect to bother to listen to you.

In this account of scripture God is showing Abraham respect, God was mindful to not only include Abraham but, also to bother to listen to him.

This back and forth between God and Abraham laid down a framework of beautiful communication that then went on to be patterned by Moses, then Joshua and so on.

In fact, you and I are still enjoying the very same pattern of communicating back and forth with God even to this very day, if we want to. How amazing is that?

Jesus also calls His disciples friends (that’s you and me, John 15:15). Through Christ Jesus the seed of Abraham (Galatians 3:16), He includes those not born naturally of Abraham into a close friendship with God because we were born again supernaturally by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8).

It’s the kind of friendship that brings about revelations, hidden truths that He chooses not to keep to Himself. The question is, are we listening and waiting for Him to speak? Or are we quick to get on with our day once we’ve said our piece and unloaded what’s on our heart?

Our Friend and Father wants to speak and be heard, not just in some things but in all things. Greater revelation and deeper intimacy with God is waiting for us, will we make time to wait on Him? #christianmotivation #Jesus #devo… Click To Tweet

Our Friend and Father wants to speak and be heard, not just in some things but in all things. Greater revelation and deeper intimacy with God is waiting for us, will we make time to wait on Him?

This week let’s ask God to help us to make some more quality time to sit with Him, wait on Him and listen for His heart on the matters we present to Him and the matters He presents to us. Let’s include Him in our daily tasks asking for His opinion and His strategies and let’s wait to hear the answer. Let our true friendship with God, reveal.

This is God’s word spoken in love. Remember The LORD our God, He is good and His mercies endure forever. May the blessings of the LORD overtake you and come upon you and His love surround you, for His glory. Have a blessed week. In Jesus Name.

Be a blessing and share this with someone who needs to hear this today.
